Epidemiologie der Psoriasis in Deutschland - Auswertung von Sekundärdaten einer gesetzlichen Krankenversicherung

Abstract: If the prevalence rate of 2.5% assessed in this study is applied to the total resident population, 2 million people are treated because of psoriasis in Germany. Routine data from health insurance companies are a relevant and suitable data source to assess the prevalence of chronic diseases (under medical treatment) in the population.

“…For other skin diseases, population-based studies on prevalence are sparser. However, our results are in agreement with prevalence data published for psoriasis (29)(30)(31)(32)(33), atopic eczema (23,27,(34)(35)(36)(37) and acne (25,(38)(39)(40). Answers to our question on eczema on other locations than hands may include eczemas other than atopic eczema.…”

“…Furthermore, patients with milder disease who are under the care of a general practitioner or family doctor were not included. The results of regional variation in prescription practices for psoriasis patients are supported by the Gmünd Statutory Health Insurance data from nearly 34 000 psoriasis patients nationwide, with similar differences seen when classified by zip code [22]. Nevertheless, the analysis presented here is largely explorative in nature.…”

“…The approximation of the total number of children and adolescents with psoriasis in the SHI was based on the official record type of the German annual compensation statistic for 2007 (German “Satzart [SA] 40,” official statistic of the Federal Insurance Office). For prevalence, the equation for the approximation of a binomial confidence interval (CI; formula 1) was used : p1,2=r±z1α/2*r(1r)n1withp=r=kn, where α = alpha error, k = successes in the sample, n = sample size, p = proportion of successes estimated from the statistical sample, r = relative frequency = k / n , and z = number of standard deviations from the mean ( z ‐score). The Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) Classification System (2007) was used to classify drugs.…”
