The study was conducted during two consecutive years 2018–2019 and 2019–2020 at IARI, Regional Station, Pune, Maharashtra, India to evaluate for genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance of nineteen genotypes. Our objective was to select the promising genotypes under open condition with better horticultural attributes under Western Maharashtra plain zone. Based on average of two years data, total yield ranged from 1.79-4.22 t ha-1 and maximum observed in Orobelle Yellow. TSS ranged from 6.35–9.66°Brix, maximum in KTC-153 while Vitamin C content varied between 129.99–175.57 mg 100 g-1 FW maximum in ATS-89. Phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was greater than genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all traits. However, GCV values were near to PCV values for most of the characters indicating high contribution of genotypic effect for phenotypic expression. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance (Mean %) was obtained for plant height, number of fruits plant-1, yield plant-1, yield ha-1, fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit cavity, fruit weight, number of seeds per fruit, and hundred seed weight, reflecting the presence of additive gene effects for the expression of these traits. Genotypes NS-281, KTP-141, SH-SP-4-1, SH-SPH-603, ATS-89, ATS-86, KTC-153, ATS-86 were found promising in one or the other characters like number of fruits plant-1, yield plant-1, yield (t ha-1), Vitamin C content, TSS. These lines can be used as pre-breeding material for hybridization programme.

Background: Rabies is a 100% fatal disease. Man acquires the disease once he gets bitten by a rabid animal or even on contact with its saliva on mucous membrane or broken skin. Although fatal but it's a 100% preventable disease as the incubation period gives us the chance to intervene before the disease could develop. To reduce the number of deaths due to rabies correct measures must be taken after an exposure. Objectives: To assess the knowledge regarding animal bite among animal bite victims Methods: This study is a cross-sectional hospital based study carried out for a period of one month in the anti-rabies clinic of SMHS hospital, Srinagar. Information was obtained from animal bite victims by applying a semi-structured questionnaire. Results: Only 27 % of the participants knew that animal bite can lead to rabies. Only 27% of the cases had heard the term rabies. 56% knew that animal bite can be fatal. About 93% of the participants knew that vaccine is necessary after animal bite. 70% knew nothing about the wound care. Conclusion:There is a need to create awareness among the masses and among healthcare providers like ASHA workers as well so that awareness can be created at a large scale. Awareness about rabies must be spread among school children and even college going students. In addition measures must be taken to reduce dog population, pets should be vaccinated and indiscriminate throwing of the waste should be banned.

Background: Rabies is an enzootic and epizootic disease of worldwide. Rabies is a fatal but preventable viral disease. Rabies is one of the neglected tropical diseases that predominantly affects poor and vulnerable populations who live in remote rural locations. Objectives of current study was to assess the prevalence of animal bite cases and its associated factors in a tribal district of Northern Odisha and to study the first aid management of people after dog bite. Methods: It was a cross sectional study. This study was conducted at PRM medical college, Baripada, Odisha in anti-rabies vaccination (ARV) OPD clinic. The study period was March 2021 to September 2021. The sampling techniques was consecutive sampling. The study population was all animal bite case attending ARV clinic. Data was analyzed by appropriate statistical tool. Results: Majority 54.9% victims are dog bite victims and the most common site of bite was lower limb (53.6%). The main source of information was family and friends followed by doctors and health workers. Conclusions: Majority of people especially in rural and tribal area were illiterate and they don’t have any knowledge about animal bite or its management. This study had found that those who are literate had done a proper wound management before coming to ARV clinic. So, literacy proved to have a major impact on wound management. Behavior changes communication (BCC) along with health education is a vital weapon for controlling rabies especially in developing country like India.
