Epidemiological Distribution and Subtype Analysis of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder Syndromes and Symptoms Based on TCM Theories

Abstract: We performed an epidemiological investigation of subjects with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) to identify the clinical distribution of the major syndromes and symptoms. The pathogenesis of PMDD mainly involves the dysfunction of liver conveyance and dispersion. Excessive liver conveyance and dispersion are associated with liver-qi invasion syndrome, while insufficient liver conveyance and dispersion are expressed as liver-qi depression syndrome. Additionally, a nonconditional logistic regression was pe… Show more

“…However, exclusion of females could be a significant point against this study’s clinical relevance because depression and anxiety are more prevalent in women than in men. Actually, we noticed that some subtypes of depression or anxiety were related to fluctuating hormones [ 92 , 93 ]. Evaluating only male offspring could focus more on the “passing on” behavioural deficits caused by maternal chronic SDS.…”

“…This is one of the puzzling problems in this field. The key to this problem may be the subtyping of PMDD (45)(46)(47). Different subtypes of PMDD may be mixed together, resulting in no valuable molecular clues.…”

“…Due to these findings, many scholars apply research in this area to disease subtype exploration. For instance, Chinese scholars proved that liver-qi invasion syndrome and liver-qi depression syndrome are the main subtypes of PMS/PMDD with epidemiological research [23,24].…”
