Epidemiological and microbiological aspects of healthcare-associated infections in Ukraine during the 2009–2019 period

Abstract: INTRODUCTION. Healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) are a global health problem, and the problem of HCAIs in Ukraine remains poorly understood because of problems with the registration system. OBJECTIVE. To analyze the official data of the number of registered HCAIs in Ukraine for the period 2009-2019, compare them with the available data in scientific publications. MATERIAL AND METHODS. Statistical analysis of information from the “Laboratory Centers of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine” kindly provided by… Show more

“…Salmanov et al 98 provide further details on these and another study has pointed out that extensive antibiotic resistance is also seen in many other countries. 101 Healthcare-associated infections have decreased in Ukraine in the last decade, 63 with most nosocomial infections originating from surgery, pregnancy, childbirth and the perinatal period. 63 A review by Konechnyi et al, 63 63 Extended spectrum beta-lactamase-producing bacteria were common.…”

“…The situation in Ukraine is particularly challenging due to a combination of factors, including inadequate infection control measures and a potential problem of under-registration. This manuscript builds upon our previous work [5] and aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the registered cases of HAIs in Ukraine from 2009 to 2021. By analyzing this data, we hope to shed light on the prevalence and trends of HAIs in Ukraine, thereby contributing to the global understanding of these infections and informing public health strategies.…”

“…В Україні структура та поширеність ІАНМД, а також антимікробна резистентність збудників малодосліджені [13]. З'ясування етіологічних чинників шпитальних інфекцій дихальних шляхів (ІДШ), а також докладна характеристика їх чутливости до антибактеріальних засобів -актуальна проблема сучасної медицини.…”
