“…Primary liver cancer accounts for the third most deadly type of malignant tumor globally and approximately 80% of the cases are hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) [ 1 , 2 ]. To date, despite the availability of many different therapeutic interventions, such as surgical resection, liver transplantation, radiofrequency ablation, chemoembolization, and target therapy [ 3 ], the prognosis of HCC remains poor, with a five-year overall survival (OS) rate below 20% [ 1 ].…”

“…Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most prevalent primary liver cancer [1], accounting for 70-90% of liver cancer deaths worldwide [2,3]. Treatment is not curative for most patients, who often experience poor clinical outcomes, with approximately three-quarters of patients dying within five years of diagnosis [4]. Patients with HCC have worse health-related quality of life (HRQL) than people with chronic liver disease [5].…”

“…Fan and colleagues suggest that compromised physical wellbeing may often be a consequence of treatment side effects. Pain is the main symptom reported by patients, with an increasing impact on HRQL as patients approach the end of life [4].…”
