“…In this theoretical paper, I propose this detailed new classification of "Consciousness" extending our (Neppe and Close) previous integration of the four overlapping EPIC 'prongs'. [7][8][9][10] Existential, Paradigmatic, Information-meaning and Cybernetic. The EPIC has slightly changed to Essence, Paradigmatic Level, Information, Meaning and Cybernetic.…”

“…It might be that the best way to approach this complex subject of Consciousness is to get rid of the term completely, and apply each context differently with other terms so as to differentiate them. However, all aspects of consciousness in these different specialties are still integrated, and the different components-what I call 'prongs'of consciousness are such that they're empirically feasible: 7 A basic rule for the scientific method involves feasible concepts 11 leading to specific testable predictions, often applying our raw senses at first, then magnifying our senses through qualitative or quantitative testing. 12 This is why it was important to have demonstrated in research (in the areas of neuropsychiatry and behavioral neurology) that the prong classification we previously suggested in this very journal --namely the 'EPIC classification of consciousness'--has applicability and can be applied to a large selection of (in this instance 13) different diagnoses, of patients.…”

“…However, at the same time, phenomena like near death (NDEs), out of body experiences (OBEs), and extra-sensory perception also exist, which cannot be interpreted within the traditional materialistic theoretical frame. Taking together the unsolved questions of neuroscience as the hard problem, and the existence of such phenomena as NDEs and OBEs, an ever increasing number of studies and books appear, which already utilize the transcendental approach (Brabant, 2016;Bravo & Grob, 1989;Cardena, 2016;Chalmers, 1995;Dein & Bhui, 2013;Eccles, 1994;Eccles & Popper, 1977;Facco, Lucangeli, & Tressoldi, 2017;Frecska & Luna, 2006;Goswami, 1993;Hameroff & Penrose, 2014;Kelly et al, 2007;Lanza & Berman, 2009Machleidt & Sieberer, 2013;Morris, 2001;Neppe & Close, 2014;Noda, 2011;Parnia & Fenwick, 2002;Schwartz & Begley, 2002;Varela, 1996;V ızi, 2005). One of the latest books is the Transcendent Mind, published by the rather conservative American Psychological Association.…”

“…We have called the discipline involving multiple dimensions, "Dimensional Biopsychophysics" (DBP) and DBP is exemplified by any model, such as 9 dimensions, that incorporates physics (here quantum physics and spinning particles including fermions) and examines biology all the context of "Consciousness Research" (Neppe and Close, 2014a;2014b;2015b). DBP is therefore broader than physics, which focuses on 3S-1t.…”

“…The SMP is interpreted as a paradigm that cannot explain why there is complex structure and conscious organisms in the universe, or a universe at all. In the SMP, "consciousness" is an emergent feature or epiphenomenal expression of materialism, and arguably, neuroscience cannot adequately explain consciousness in terms of the physical brain alone (Neppe and Close, 2014e;2014b). Similarly, some would regard "String Theory" in its many iterations (Brax, 2011) as speculative because it remains unproven -it remains a "theory" (Morgart, 2014).…”
