Enzyme Polymorphisms in Galicia (NW Spain)

Abstract: Blood samples of people from Galicia were investigated for different enzyme polymorphisms (GLO, EsD, ADA, AK and 6-PGD). Phenotype and gene frequencies of these enzyme groups are given. A rare variant, EsD 3-1, was observed.

“…In the Berber sample an electrophoretic variant with normal activity and with the same No significant gene frequency differences were found between our and other Spanish samples studied for the same loci by Afonso et al [81,Brinkmann et al [18], Caeiro and Rcy [19], Carracedo and Concheiro [20], Goedde et al [21], except for the ACP-1 gene [8], where our sample had a lower ACP-A frequency (X2 = 7.18; d.f. = 2; p < 0.05).…”

“…The GLO distribution in Ibiza was similar to that reported in most Spanish populations [Carracedo and Concheiro, 1983;Martinez de Panbcorbo, 1982;Mar tel et al, 1986;Busi et al, 1979;Aguirre, 1987]. The Ibiza population differs from most east-Mediterranean populations, which have higher frequencies for the GLO*2 allele [Golan et al, 1977], Numbers in parentheses are degrees of freedom.…”
