“…ADH3 is involved in regulation of the effects of nitric oxide in the cell and is therefore important for the maintenance of cellular homeostasis [ 66 ]. Additionally, ADH3 has been reported to represent a class of enzyme that is closely related to the developmental stages of Vitis rupestris somatic embryos [ 67 ]. The other exception was cinnamoyl alcohol dehydrogenase (spot 333), which was unique to the control treatment.…”

“…We observed that the synthesis of certain proteins induced by PEG treatment, such as enolase, esterase and ADH3, could play an important role in the maturation of somatic papaya embryos. These proteins have been found to be associated with somatic embryo development in other species [ 60 , 61 , 67 , 106 ], and esterases are considered important biomarkers of somatic embryos in plants [ 106 ]. Additionally, the present study provides a list of PEG-induced proteins that are potential biomarker candidates for future investigations of somatic embryogenic development in papaya.…”

“…Somatic embryogenesis in grapevine is hindered by low efficiency and a strong genotype effect. Only a few molecular studies of the developmental steps of morphogenesis have been conducted in this plant (Gianazza et al 1992, Martinelli et al 1993). A better understanding of the factors involved in somatic embryogenesis would be required for determining central aspects of grapevine biology and for improving this plant using a biotechnological approach (Martinelli and Gribaudo 2001).…”

“…Plants express many dehydrogenases, but we can highlight alcohol dehydrogenase 3 (ADH3). ADH3 represents a class of enzymes that may be related to a specific stage of embryonic development in Vitis rupestris [ 56 ], Daucus carota [ 57 ] and Bactris gasipaes Kunth [ 58 ] somatic embryos. Therefore, the function of this enzyme is important, among many other functions as the possible association of this protein with embryogenic competence for somatic embryo formation.…”
