Plastic pollution has emerged as a significant environmental and public health concern globally, with detrimental effects on ecosystems, human health, and socio-economic development. One way to a safer global environment is encouraging rural communities to manage solid waste and reduce plastic pollution. This study aims to explore the environmental governance and political economy of plastic pollution management in rural communities of Ogun State, Nigeria. By examining the interactions between governance structures, political actors, and socio-economic factors, the study seeks to provide insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with plastic waste management in rural areas. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, to obtain comprehensive and detailed findings. The results of the study indicate divergent interests among stakeholders regarding the management of plastic pollution and environmental concerns in rural communities of the Ijebu region in Ogun State, Nigeria. The research emphasizes the importance of supporting community-led environmental initiatives that adhere to established environmental guidelines for effective solid waste management, with particular emphasis on plastic waste, in rural areas of Nigeria.

This study set out specifically to assess the role of public relations in corporate image, with particular focus on MTN and GLO, Calabar. The study was anchored on psychodynamic and socio-cultural theories. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher adopted survey method of fact finding with the questionnaire as instrument for data collection. A sample of 384 respondents for the study was determined by the Check Market Sample Calculator. Therefore, sample size of 384 respondents was drawn from the population of 375,196. While multistage sampling approach was employed in the selection of actual respondents. The study employed simple percentage frequency table in analysing responses from the questionnaire, Population T-test and Simple Linear Regression in testing the hypotheses. Linear regression is a statistical method for obtaining a formula to predict values of one variable from another where there is a casual relationship between the two variables. The method was used to test the relationship between public relations and corporate image. It was discovered that the activities of public relations have led to increase in the profit of MTN and GLO, it was also discovered amongst others that the level of corporate development of the mobile companies is significantly high. It was recommended thatpublic relations practitioners/professionals of GLO and MTN, Calabar should intensify and sustain the application of public relations strategies in achieving organizational objectives. It was also recommended that GLO and MTN telecommunication companies should periodically appraise their public relations practices at various levels of their corporate organizational operations and such appraisals should be made public so as to encourage other organizations to imbibe the public relations culture as a panacea for corporate development amongst others.

A Study of the Relationships between the Characteristics of the Village Population Structure and Rural Residential Solid Waste Collection Services: Evidence from China

Based on survey data collected in 2016 from 100 villages across five provinces in China, this paper uses binary logistic model to explore the main factors related to the supply and quality of rural residential solid waste collection (RRSWC) services, especially focusing on the role of village population structure characteristics. It is indicated from the results that village population structure characteristics are significantly correlated with RRSWC services; specifically: (1) the total registered population of village households is significantly positively correlated with the supply of RRSWC services, however, the correlation between the registered population and the quality of RRSWC services is negative and the more the labors working and living outside the village, the less likely the village is to provide RRSWC services; (2) the villagers’ educational levels and RRSWC services show no significant correlativity at the present stage; (3) the preferential policies brought by population structure advantage play a positive role in the supply of RRSWC services but is not clearly related to the quality of RRSWC services, especially in the villages with a larger minority population. In addition, the study finds that, the economic development level of a village and the characteristics of village leaders are also positively correlated with the supply and quality of RRSWC services and; the natural and traffic conditions have no significant correlation with RRSWC services. This study can act as a reference for the further promotion of the development of RRSWC services in China.
