Environmental-Friendly Adsorbent Composite Based on Hydroxyapatite/Hydroxypropyl Methyl-Cellulose for Removal of Cationic Dyes from an Aqueous Solution

Abstract: The aim of this study is to develop a new, efficient, and inexpensive natural-based adsorbent with high efficacy for the cationic dye methylene blue (MB). A natural-based nanocomposite based on hydroxyapatite (HAp) and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) was selected for this purpose. It was synthesized by the dissolution/reprecipitation method. A film with a homogeneous and smooth surface composed of nanoparticles was prepared from the nanocomposite. HPMC and HAp biopolymers were selected due to their compat… Show more

“…The adsorption equilibrium is achieved when the contact time exceeds 2.5 h, and as the contact time increases, the adsorption efficiency also tends to change to some extent. Experimental data indicate that 2.5 min is sufficient to achieve adsorption equilibrium . Therefore, it can be concluded that the optimum contact time for adsorption is 2.5 h, as shown in Figure A.…”

“…The impact of adsorption duration and pH was examined, and the pH was changed by adding either HNO 3 or NH 4 OH. The nature of the adsorption process was investigated using thermodynamic parameters [ 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 ].…”

“…The antibacterial polymers usually obtained either by synthesis of monomeric biocide moiety and subsequent polymerization or copolymerization with another monomer or modification can also be brought by grafting of N-alkylated poly (4-vinylpyridine) quaternized polyethyleneimine and quaternary derivatives of acrylic acid onto numerous materials such as cellulose [ 26 ]. Other studies demonstrate that ZnO/Ag nanocomposites, membranes loaded with HAp-Ag 3 PO 4 nanoparticles, and silver nanoparticle–activated carbon composite nanofiber membranes exhibit an enhanced antimicrobial activity [ 17 , 18 , 27 ].…”
