Environmental factors influencing the diversity and distribution of dictyostelid cellular slime molds in forest and farmland soils of western China

Zhaojuan Zhang,
Yingkun Yang,
Jing Zhao
et al.

Abstract: Dictyostelid cellular slime molds (dictyostelids) are one of the major groups of eukaryotic amoeboid protists occurring in the soil microhabitat. The past few decades have witnessed an unprecedented interest in the ecology of dictyostelids, stimulated in part by the hidden soil protist diversity that has long been overlooked. However, a better understanding of the impact of various environmental factors on the biodiversity of dictyostelids is needed to understand the critical functional role of these organisms… Show more

“…tion [25]. Previous studies of dictyostelid biodiversity have yielded only nine species (Dictyostelium macrocephalum, D. implicatum, D. crassicaul, D. firmibasis, D. purpureum, Heterostelium tenuissimum, H. pallidum, Polysphondylium violaceum, and Cavenderia delicata) from Guizhou Province [26,27].…”

“…Guizhou Province is located in Southwest China, and has a wide range of soil types, vegetation, and climatic conditions along the gradient of elevation [25]. Previous studies of dictyostelid biodiversity have yielded only nine species (Dictyostelium macrocephalum, D. implicatum, D. crassicaul, D. firmibasis, D. purpureum, Heterostelium tenuissimum, H. pallidum, Polysphondylium violaceum, and Cavenderia delicata) from Guizhou Province [26,27]. Herein, using morphology and molecular systematics, we isolated and identified dictyostelids in the soil of the Fanjing Mountain Nature Reserve while also exploring their diversity and the impact of environmental factors on these species.…”
