The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the world, accounting for more than 30% of global GDP and 60% of world population. The economic growth of BRI member countries can be improved significantly, attributable to the successfulness of the infrastructure projects. The increased economic growth indirectly leads to higher energy consumption and environmental damage. In response to this, the BRI established a new concept and version of the project, namely green BRI. Thus, this study aims to examine if green finance plays a significant role in mitigating environmental degradation in the BRI region. Utilising a Generalised Method of Moments approach, we find green finance is negatively and significantly correlated with environmental degradation, suggesting green finance play an essential role to reduce the deterioration of environmental quality, while enhancing economic growth at the same time. In conclusion, BRI member states should continue promoting green finance by implementing incentive schemes, such as subsidising interest rates for the green loan, reducing corporate tax and establishing green credit guarantee scheme. Besides, in order simultaneously enhance economic growth, promote sustainability and achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, both governments and private sector should work hand in hand to promote green transformation of BRI.

Sustainable Market Environment and Consumer Confidence in Food Safety in China After COVID-19: Urban Consumer Perspectives

Previously, several food safety incidents have lowered Chinese consumer confidence regarding the purchase of meat and domestically-produced infant formulas (DIF). Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic was caused by a food safety issue, and it is, therefore, important to investigate sustainable consumer confidence and its influence on consumption behavior by first estimating consumer confidence in meat and DIF products. The purpose of this study is thus to estimate the sustainable market environment and Chinese consumer confidence behavior post-COVID-19 regarding the purchase of meat and DIF products by applying a choice experiment. An online survey was conducted with 704 consumers residing in Nanjing. The survey obtained information on the features of meat and DIF products that affected consumer purchase consideration and determined the perceived estimated value of the product (price 15.24%, quality certification 31.57%, organic 23.69%, traceability 18.51%). These findings provide insight into consumer perceived premium pay behavior concerning the value estimation of product features according to the market environment (price 191.6 CNY, quality certification 285.3 CNY, organic product 189.1 CNY, and traceability 143.7 CNY). Chinese consumers’ low confidence in the safety of meat and DIF products appears less sustainable. Quality certification is the product feature that is most valued, followed by organic origin and production-to-consumption traceability. Apart from these, price is seen as an indication of high quality by consumers with low confidence, which results in a positive image of DIF products. In addition, consumer preferences for production-to-consumption traceability are highly affected by consumer confidence.

In this research, the perishable products’ closed-loop supply chain network design problem is assessed by considering the disruption in production and distribution capacity and taking into account the uncertainty in customer demand. The main contribution of this research is modeling perishable products’ supply chain optimization and providing intelligent solution methods. In this regard, a mixed-integer mathematical model is proposed. This mathematical model consists of three objective functions. The first objective function is related to profit maximization, the second objective function is to minimize delivery time, and the third objective function is to reduce lost business days. Moreover, non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGAII) and Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA) have been applied to optimize the proposed model. The research results show that the proposed meta-heuristic algorithm can provide a complete set of Pareto solutions in a reasonable amount of time. Moreover, based on different criteria, MOEA provides the non-dominated solutions with a higher quality, while NSGAII presents the Pareto boundary with more solutions than MOEA.
