Environmental, economic, and social impact of five COP26 policies: A computable general equilibrium analysis for Canada

Abstract: Along with the main objective of politicians, other economic variables are variously affected by the environmental taxes, policies, and limitations like a price on pollution, clean electricity, the cap on emissions, methane emissions, and nature‐based solutions. The objective of the environmental solutions is to decrease pollutant emissions and energy consumption while reducing labor costs and taxes as the incentives for creating new occupations. An overall equilibrium model was considered in the present study… Show more

“…2 Although power generation is considered as an indicator of industrial and economic development and countries' public welfare, its production by thermal power plants using fossil fuels, is one of the main reasons of the emission of environmental pollutants and consuming water resources. 3 The statistics regarding the emission of greenhouse gasses in the world indicate that about 40% of carbon dioxide emission in the world is because of thermal power generation. 4 In addition to emission of pollutants and different kinds of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur dioxides, greenhouse effect and acid rain are among other destructive environmental effects of thermal power generation industry.…”

“…It can assess the footprint associated with a particular product for meaningful comparisons [19] . Since the "top-down" principle is used to analyze and design the system, this method solves the global problem first and emphasizes the consideration of specific solutions under the premise of the overall optimization of the system, which indicates its better integrity and strong systematic pertinence [20] . In addition, multiple life cycle stages and contain various types of environmental impact assessment indicators can be covered to avoid the transfer of environmental problems between these types of impacts [21] .…”
