Environmental assay on the effect of poultry manure application on soil organisms in agroecosystems

Abstract: Keywords:Poultry manure Multi-Species Soil System Enzymatic activities This paper reports the effects produced on the organisms of the soil (plants, invertebrates and microorganisms), after the application of two types of poultry manure (sawdust and straw bed) on an agricultural land. The test was made using a terrestrial microcosm, Multi-Species Soil System (MS3) developed in INIA. There was no difference in the germination for any of the three species of plants considered in the study. The biomass was increa… Show more

“…Therefore, the improvement of yield parameters may be explained by the rapid and continuous release of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus from this manure, which satisfied nutritional needs of potato during all stages for its development cycle. Especially since these nutriments are present in the poultry manure under a readily available form for plant uptake (ElTantawy et al, 2009;Delgado et al, 2012).…”

“…assay, a 10 g aliquot of the wet sample was homogenized in 90 mL of 1% peptone water and incubated at 36±1˚C for 18 to 24 hours. After preenrichment, the sample was inoculated in selective broths and plated onto selective and differential agars; genetically compatible colonies were confirmed through biochemical and serological tests (DOWNES; ITO, 2001). …”

“…As a result of the increased generation of these residues, their application as fertilizer has increasingly been the subject of environmental (DELGADO et al, 2012;GALLOWAY et al, 2003;HOULBROOKE et al, 2004) and agronomic (MAGUIRE et al, 2011) studies. The generation of poultry manure is increasing as the egg industry grows in response to domestic and international markets, enabling the application of raw (untreated) manure as fertilizer for agricultural soils (DEMIR et al, 2010;FIGUEROA et al, 2012). Studies by Demir et al (2010) and Figueroa et al (2012) demonstrate the beneficial effects of the application of organic fertilizers including of the application of Acta Scientiarum.…”
