Environmental and Geotechnical Assessment of the Steel Slags as a Material for Road Structure

Abstract: Slags are the final solid wastes from the steel industry. Their production from waste and associated materials is a proper implementation of the basic objectives and principles of the waste management. This study aims to investigate the chemical and selected significant geotechnical parameters of steel slag as the alternative materials used in road construction. These investigations are strongly desired for successful application in engineering. Young’s modules E, and resilient modules Mr showed that their val… Show more

“…The observed changes in the chemical composition of soil and plants are the consequence of the contamination of individual components of the natural environment by progressing and degrading anthropogenic activity (Adamcova et al 2016;Sas et al 2015). Changes in the chemical properties of soil have a direct effect on plants, indirectly affecting humans and animals.…”

“…The behaviour of the soil under cyclic loading has been studied by many researches recently (Kokusho and Kaneko 2014;Feng et al 2015;Cai et al 2015;Sas et al 2014Sas et al , 2015. The most extensive studies were focused on liquefaction phenomena because of the danger that can be caused by its appearance (Kokusho and Kaneko 2014;Kokusho et al 2012).…”

“…The dynamic development of the modern economy, covering a wide range of various branches of industry, transport or agriculture, as well as progressing urbanization, are inseparably connected with releasing a signifi cant amount of waste and contaminants into the environment, including heavy metals (Rogula-Kozłowska et al 2013, Vaverková and Adamcová 2014, Sas et al 2015. Among the elements which are widely encountered in the natural environment is lead (Pb), which in the case of chemical compounds has two oxidation states, i.e.…”
