“…The authors showed that applicability of EGM is conditional depending on whether net exergy flow rate into the system is fixed or not. In recent years studies on entropy generation for a variety of thermo-hydraulic problems and geometries have been reported [39][40][41][42][43].…”

“…In one statistical interpretation of entropy, it is found that for a very large system in thermodynamic equilibrium, entropy S is proportional to the natural logarithm of a quantity Ω corresponding to S and can be realized; that is, S " KlnΩ, in which K is related to molecular energy. On the other hand, entropy generation analysis [5][6][7][8][9][10][11] is used to optimize the thermal engineering devices for higher energy efficiency; it has attracted wide attention to its applications and rates in recent years. In order to access the best thermal design of systems, by minimizing the irreversibility, the second law of thermodynamics could be employed.…”

“…Jeng et al [13] analyzed the pressure drop and heat transfer of square pin-fin arrays with variable longitudinal and transverse pitch in in-line and staggered arrangements using the transient single-blow technique. The entropy minimization method was applied to optimize the heat sink with staggered arrays of pin fin and tip clearance by Shi et al [14]. It was found that the effect of tip clearance was more pronounced for conductive at the high aspect ratio, compared with convective, while the convective effect dominated at low 5 ratio.…”
