In this review of the psychology of entrepreneurship, we first present meta-analytic findings showing that personality dimensions, such as (general) self-efficacy and need for achievement, and entrepreneurial orientation are highly associated with entrepreneurship (business creation and business success). We then discuss constructs that were developed within entrepreneurship research, such as entrepreneurial alertness, business planning, financial capital as resources, and entrepreneurial orientation, and how they can be better understood by taking a psychological perspective. Next, we elaborate how traditional psychological constructs have been utilized in entrepreneurship and how this may enhance our knowledge in industrial and organizational psychology (with respect to, for example, knowledge, practical intelligence, cognitive biases, goals and visions, personal initiative, passion, and positive and negative affect). Finally, we provide an overall framework useful for the psychology of entrepreneurship, and implications for future research.

Resumo: As políticas públicas de apoio a empreendimentos de pequeno porte despontam no Brasil, a partir dos anos 2000, tendo como principais marcos o Estatuto Nacional da Microempresa e da Empresa de Pequeno. This paper addresses, as an object of study, the implementation process of the latter legal instrument in a spatiality defined by the municipality of Araraquara. The methodological strategy used was a qualitative research, outlined as a single case study of exploratory character, employing as instruments for data collection: both documental research as well as interviews with structured scripts. Results have shown that the dynamic imposed by the implementation of the law can be characterized by fragile inter-organizational ties and relations based on the maximization of individual interests, to the detriment of collective interests, which ought to be pursued by public policies. It was verified, on the analysis of the direct and indirect impacts and results, that the local government was not ready for the execution of the policy designed on the federal level. The agents in local level proceed in a manner to fragment the formalization into small bits, in which each one of them acts on its own environment, without interaction or complementation; as a consequence, the formalization process is carried out following a hierarchical order, which results in a segmented and fragmented implementation.

This empirical study of 247 nascent entrepreneurs examines the joint effect of high ability and entrepreneurial confidence is influencing the choice of innovative entrepreneurship. We suggest that in their decision to pursue entrepreneurship aspiring nascent entrepreneurs seek to gain strategic advantages that allow their new ventures to enter and compete in a given marketplace. We argue that aspiring nascent entrepreneurs create such advantages by choosing innovative entrepreneurial projects as opposed to imitative ones. Our results support the hypothesised effects. Considering that innovation is one of the most important and desired outcome of entrepreneurship our results identifies sources of quality entrepreneurship in an economy.
