EntreComp and GreenComp for Entrepreneurship. What is the ‘Real’ Relationship?

Abstract: This paper seeks to explore the relationship between two educational frameworks: EntreComp, the European entrepreneurship competency framework (Bacigalupo et al., 2016) and GreenComp, the European sustainability competency framework (Bianchi et al., 2022). “…The systems perspective similarly is developed in the being and doing dimensions, as students gained a sense of interconnectedness with others around them and learnt how to engage stakeholders; conversely, the thinking side of system theory is partly developed through knowledge of the SDGs, but not holistically in conjunction with prior education, as students mentioned they are not aware of the SDGs prior to joining Enactus. In summary, this confirms that while participating in Enactus, students did not acquire a sustainability mindset, they were given the opportunity to develop one (Moon et al , 2019). A sustainability mindset is a set of knowledge, values and competencies that should be developed holistically, with Enactus capable of providing for the being and doing dimensions of it, but in unison with HEIs that should provide for the thinking dimensions of the sustainability mindset framework’s dimensions.…”

“…The research further contributes to education for sustainable development literature by showing how the sustainability mindset framework is a theoretical tool useful to evaluate the education of future leaders aligned with the SDGs (Moon et al, 2019). The study highlighted that it is through a holistic type of education that students can grasp the knowledge necessary to understand the SDGs, but more than anything it is through an experiential and real-world action like Enactus that they develop an aspiration to create social impact; this can be truly formed when a student develops values and competency around sustainability.…”

“…Moreover, a thorough comparison of both is still missing. Moon and colleagues attempt to compare the two frameworks, but without clear methodology or results [42]. In their article, which develops a self-assessment tool for EntreComp, López-Núñez et al mention in the conclusion that EntreComp and GreenComp could be combined without further investigating the commonalities [43].…”

“…Second, Being relates to the being side of human, specifically regarding spirituality. From the spirituality perspective, a sustainability mindset can be formed based on the values of empathy, compassion and connectedness to nature (Moon et al, 2019; Rimanoczy, 2017). Third, Doing means enhancing the ability to make sustainable decisions.…”
