“…The results indicated that, the volume fraction of Gd-211 particles, V 211 , was about 35% for the two samples. Such a high V 211 value may have been obtained here because the micrographs were scanned from a position far away from the seed [16,17]. The average size of Gd-211 particles for the two samples, analysed by assuming that the shape of the Gd-211 particles is spherical, are estimated to be 2.39 and 2.46 µm respectively and the sizes are not very different.…”

“…This will make the bulk be grown in a sharper and higher temperature window practically, corresponding to lower undercooling degrees. However, according to the established trapping/pushing theory, a higher undercooling, consistent with a large growth rate, can bring both the increase of volume fraction and the decrease of average size of RE‐211 particles in RE‐123 matrix, thus leading to a higher J c 28,29 . As a result, the condensation and up‐shift of the growth temperature window will deteriorate the superconducting properties of the final bulk because of the pushing of more smaller RE‐211 particles by the growth front.…”

On the other hand, when the bulk was grown in a narrow and relative higher temperature window (corresponding to small growth rates), the growth process for a whole bulk has to be completed in a relative longer period than the precise time mentioned above.…”

“…Therefore, The crystal structure of Y123/Y211 composites have been attentively investigated by many research groups (Mucha et al, 2010;Endo et al, 1996;Dias et al, 2009;Yu et al, 1997;Kim and Kim, 2000). In this present work, the influence of Y 2 BaCuO 5 (Y211) doping in the Y123, Y358 and Y257 superconductors were reported.…”
