“…Section 3.5.1). Table 6 summarises the BDEs calculated according to the incremental method of Benson (1976) 73 and adopted from Ochando-Pardo et al (2005) 74 as well as the calculated rate constant k calc = k H Â n H of a pure H abstraction reaction and the amount of k calc of the measured rate constant k 298K . Usually, small BDEs indicate larger rate constants for H abstraction reactions.…”

“…Looking at methyl vinyl ketone, the BDE calculated after Benson (1976) 73 indicates a hydrogen abstraction reaction for NO 3 and SO 4 À (100%). The BDE adopted from Ochando-Pardo et al (2005) 74 indicates a possible contribution of 50 and 14% for an H atom abstraction to the overall rate constant of methacrolein and methyl vinyl ketone for nitrate radical reactions, respectively. For SO 4 À , Ochando-Pardo's BDE indicates that the H abstraction is the most probable reaction mechanism for methacrolein, but only a 27% contribution of H abstraction is calculated for methyl vinyl ketone.…”
