Enteral nutrition ameliorates the symptoms of Crohn's disease in mice via activating special pro-resolving mediators through innate lymphoid cells

Abstract: Crohn's disease activates the inflammatory reactions to induce intestinal disorders. Enteral nutrition (EN) could exert general immunomodulatory effects. Cecal ligation and perforation (CLP) surgery was utilized to establish Crohn's disease mice models. Survival analysis, hematoxylin-eosin staining, flow cytometry, ELISA, Western blot and liquid chromatography-tandem MS were applied. Baicalein was added to inhibit lipoxygenases. The survival rate was restored and inflammatory injury, exudate neutrophils in per… Show more

“…SPMs serve as immune resolvents in controlling acute inflammatory responses and augment the concentration of anti-inflammatory lipid mediators. Evidence from several studies, signify the role of SPMs in the modulation of host responses to various infectious diseases, and hence can be ventured as a new therapeutic opportunity for treating infectious inflammatory diseases, and to curtail the usage of antibiotic therapy, with prime focus to overcome antimicrobial resistance ( Zhao et al, 2021 ; Chiang et al, 2019 ; Basil and Levy, 2016 ).…”

“…However, another study suggests that RvE1 may not be a biomarker for UC ( 195 ). Enteral nutrition can stimulate the release of RvD1-RvD5 through innate lymphoid cell activation to alleviate CD symptoms ( 203 ).…”

“…Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (HETE) and cannabinoids are important lipid mediators influencing IBD. Accumulating case-control research suggests elevated levels of 5-HETE, 11-HETE, 12-HETE, 15-HETE, and endocannabinoids in inflamed mucosa of IBD ( 186 , 203 , 204 ). Pro-inflammatory AA derivative 15S-HETE elevated in CD and 12S-HETE higher during CD remission ( 204 ).…”
