Enrollee Experience with Providers in the Arkansas Medicaid Expansion Program

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Patient ratings of their healthcare experience as a quality measure have become critically important since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA enabled states to expand Medicaid eligibility to reduce uninsurance nationally. Arkansas gained approval to use Medicaid funds to purchase a qualified health plan (QHP) through the ACA marketplace for newly eligible beneficiaries. OBJECTIVE: We compare patient-reported satisfaction between fee-for-service Medicaid and QHP participant… Show more

“…We used the RDHonest R package, an approach developed specifically to analyze regression discontinuity designs when the running variable is discrete (that is, age measured in years in our study) to select the analytic bandwidth (the range of ages around the cut-off) with a data driven method that has a trade-off between bias and variance, and accounts for discreteness in the running variable 4041. The RDHonest approach has become the standard for evaluating discrete regression discontinuity designs in clinical,4243 policy,44 and economics research 2845. We report bias adjusted confidence intervals that account for the additional uncertainty in our estimates owing to extrapolation in discrete regression discontinuity designs 4046…”
