Enolase-specific cross antibodies induce neutrophilic inflammation in the intestine

Abstract: The pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC) is to be further investigated. House dust mites (HDM) are highly associated with the pathogenesis of immune inflammation in the body. This study aims to investigate the role of enolase (one of the HDM‐derived proteins)‐specific cross Abs in the induction of UC‐like inflammation. The enolase specific IgG (EsIgG) was identified in UC patients by mass spectrometry. Mice were treated with EsIgG to induce inflammation in the colon mucosa. EsIgG was detected in the serum a… Show more

“…Cellular components were isolated from VLF and cultured in the presence of HDM extracts (DME; prepared in our laboratory [ 11 , 13 ]) or bovine serum albumin (BSA, an irrelevant antigen, used as a control) overnight. Cells were harvested, counted, and analyzed by FACS.…”

“…Recent reports show that HDM induces cross autoantibodies that are associated with chronic airway disorders and heart diseases [ 10 , 11 ]. Besides inducing airway allergy, HDM can contaminate the food to be swallowed into the digestive tract to disturb the homeostasis of epithelial barrier [ 12 , 13 ]. The vagina opens to the extrinsic environment and can be easily contaminated by HDM such as during sexual activities.…”
