“…Based on earlier findings, the Pt sites are believed to be the dominant active sites for catalytic oxygen activation . To elucidate the effect of visible light pre‐treatment on catalytic oxygen activation, XPS analysis was performed on the Au 0.8 Pt 0.2 /TiO 2 before and after visible light pre‐treatment (Figure ).…”

“…Following our earlier research on UV light pre‐treatment and motivated by the potential benefits associated with utilizing visible light in our system, exploitation of the LSPR effect arising from Au is pursued in the present work. Our prior findings on UV light pre‐treatment reported an up to seven‐fold enhancement in the formic acid oxidation rate as well as a six‐fold enhancement owing to Au–Pt bimetallic synergy, deriving from an associated increase in catalytic oxygen activation . The present study examines the effect of visible light pre‐treatment on the Au–Pt bimetallic synergy and the role of the bimetallic interactions in harnessing the Au LSPR effect for visible light pre‐illumination enhancement.…”

“…8 However, the dynamics of the relative influence of the three species during formic acid oxidation is unknown. As mentioned previously, upon light pre-treatment, the presence of PtO ads increases and appears to be responsible for an improved R 50 .…”

“…In order to increase TiO 2 photoactivity under sun light, loading by metals has been pursued [8][9][10][11][12]. This procedure affords absorbance in the visible region, so that both UV and visible radiation can activate the semiconductor catalyst [12].…”
