Enhancing Students’ Logical-Thinking Ability in Natural Science Learning with Generative Learning Model

Abstract: The logical-thinking ability is one of the important competencies of 21st century that should be empowered. It is one of the aspects in a cognitive science domain that has not been implemented effectively in teaching and learning in the class. Then, this study aimed to analyzed the influence of generative learning model to enhance students' logical-thinking ability. This study was also conducted by using a quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design. The sample was chosen… Show more

“…Experimental activities implementing at learning after the prior insight trigger by students can facilitate to create a cognitive impulse, and discussions about the experiment results can help students reconstructing their own conception towards the right conceptual insights by scientists. This is agreed by the findings of Riyanti (2018) stating that generative learning was effective to promote critical thinking in students. The escalation of student understanding reflected that the implementation of generative learning with the integrated remedial model was significantly effective to correct misconceptions in students.…”

“…As a form of language output, English writing plays an important role in English learning, but it is also influenced by logical thinking to a great extent [5]. As we all know, English writing ability is one of the most difficult abilities in English learning.…”

“…Learning of science requires logical skills and high levels of reasoning ability of students (Kiswantoa, 2017;Riyanti, Suciati, & Karyanto, 2018). Several formal reasoning approaches are consisting of adjusting variables, probabilistic proportional, co-relational and combinational reasoning abilities that are important for reasoning and to face a scientific problem (Lawson, 2003;Fax, 2009;Manwaring, Jensen, Gill, Sudweeks, Davies, & Bybee, 2018).…”

Theoretically, it has been said that the reasoning ability enhances with the enhancement of knowledge (Riyanti, Suciati, & Karyanto, 2018). Another viewpoint is that reasoning ability needs specific training, mental ability and practice (Sherry, Willis, & Caskie (2013;Sternberg, et al, 2000).…”
