“…Nano-additive oil-based lubricants exhibit excellent lubrication performance for tribological applications 4,5 . The most important advantage of using nano-additives in lubricants is their small size, which acts as a roller on the interface, leads to an increase in contact surfaces and reduces the wear and friction 6 . Depending on their structural properties, their size and concentration in the base fluid, nano-additives can improve the tribological and thermophysical properties of the base fluid [7][8][9] .…”

“…Rajendhran et al 6 studied the effect of MoS 2 nano-additives on the frictional features of the lubricating oil. The results revealed that pure oil containing 0.5 wt.% nano-additives could strikingly improve the tribological properties.…”

“…As one of the most eminent transition-metal dichalcogenides materials, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) has a unique structure, good thermal conductivity, excellent mechanical flexibility, and selflubricating property. Thus, MoS 2 nanoparticles were commonly incorporated into epoxy resin to make epoxy coatings have better tribological properties under complex and harsh working conditions [3][4][5]. Recently, many researchers have focused on hybrids composed of MoS 2 and other components (e.g., TiO 2 [6], reduced graphene oxide (rGO) [7][8][9], Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticle [10], and carbon spheres [11], etc.…”

“…MoS 2 nanosheets, as inorganic analogues of graphene, have excellent properties that are useful in many practical applications as catalysts, 1,2 in batteries, 3,4 sensors, 5 nanotransistors, 6 hydrogen storage devices, 7 supercapacitors, 8 and lubricants, 9,10 due to the band gap of 1.2-1.8 eV and the layered structure with S-Mo-S monolayers interacted via van der Waals forces. At present, the bulk MoS 2 has been widely used as an anti-wear additive in solid greases, 11 but it cannot be used in liquid lubricants due to its unstable dispersion.…”

“…The specic surface area of the bulk MoS 2 was increased through nanotechnology to obtain MoS 2 nanosheets and enhanced the stable dispersion in liquid lubricants. Rajendhran et al 12 exfoliated the bulk MoS 2 to Ni-MoS 2 nanosheets by ultrasonication and reux techniques. The friction results revealed that the average friction coefficient (COF) and average wear scar diameter (AWSD) of 0.5 wt% Ni-MoS 2 -based oil decreased by 40-50% and 15-20% compared to those of the base oil due to its small size and surface modication behavior.…”
