Interconnecting "things" and devices that takes the form of wearables, sensors, actuators, mobiles, computers, meters, or even vehicles is a critical requirement for the current era. These inter-networked connections are serving the emerging applications home and building automation, smart cities and infrastructure, smart industries, and smart-everything. However, the security of these connected Internet of things (IoT) plays a centric role with no margin for error. After a review of the relevant, online literature on the topic and after looking at the market trends and developments, one can notice that there are still concerns with regard to security in IoT products and services. This paper is focusing on a survey on IoT security and aims to highlight the most significant problems related to safety and security in the IoT ecosystems. This survey identifies the general threat and attack vectors against IoT devices while highlighting the flaws and weak points that can lead to breaching the security. Furthermore, this paper presents solutions for remediation of the compromised security, as well as methods for risk mitigation, with prevention and improvement suggestions.

Este trabajo proporciona una visión general del paradigma Internet de las Cosas (IoT) apuntando a las aplicaciones, arquitecturas, protocolos, tecnologías, y problemas pendientes y oportunidades para la investigación, tal como puede encontrarse en literatura reciente. El trabajo comienza proveyendo marcos históricos y conceptuales breves. A continuación, se profundiza en temas teóricos como las soluciones verticales, arquitecturas propuestas, protocolos específicos y tecnologías comerciales. También se revisan problemas concernientes al marco legal, todavía por desarrollarse. El postulado básico de IoT es la colaboración entre sensores inteligentes para realizar tareas innovadoras sin intervención humana. Sin embargo, avances recientes indican que serán posibles aplicaciones más potentes combinando IoT con cierto grado de inteligencia, previamente reservado a la nube. El objetivo principal de este informe es proporcionar un marco de trabajo inicial que permita a los investigadores iniciarse rápidamente en la materia, y al mismo tiempo, enfatizar la importancia de la identificación y desarrollo de aplicaciones. El trabajo concluye recomendando especial atención al modelado de sistemas IoT, a los protocolos de aplicación de tiempo real, y a la computación fog.

Nitrogen Recovery via Aquaponics–Bioponics: Engineering Considerations and Perspectives

Nitrogen, a critically important nutrient that boosts yields in agriculture and food production, is currently overused to meet the rising demand for food. Surplus nitrogen ends up in the environment in excess of the capacity of natural nitrogen cycle, thereby leading to serious environmental pollutions, such as eutrophication of water bodies and emission of nitrous oxide (a highly potent greenhouse gas) to atmosphere. Aquaponics− bioponics is an emerging soilless technology for nitrogen recovery that links organic vegetable production to aquaculture effluent remediation (aquaponics) or organic waste recycling (bioponics). This Review presents the concept of aquaponics−bioponics for nitrogen recovery. Nitrogen transformations and nitrogen mass distributions in aquaponic−bioponic systems are critically discussed, along with the nutrient availability of several organic composts that can be integrated with the systems, and the microbial communities involved. This discussion is followed by a dynamic nitrogen modeling for managing nitrogen from different wastes in aquaponics−bioponics. Various emerging engineering technologies that could improve aquaponics−bioponics are presented, including aeration with microbubbles and/or nanobubbles, cocultivation with algae, process automation with Internet of Things, and integration with indoor vertical farming (plant factory with artificial light). Overall, the Review lays out the state-of-art in aquaponics−bioponics and highlights potential approaches for developing highly efficient nitrogen recovery technologies from diverse organic waste streams.
