Enhancement of voltage regulation using a 7-Level inverter based electric spring with reduced number of switches

Abstract: Electric Springs has been testified recently to enhance voltage regulation in distribution systems using demand side management. In this paper, a 7-level Multilevel Inverter (MLI) with a resonant switched capacitor Converter based on sinusoidal PWM, is implemented to analyze the performance of an electric spring under voltage variations at PCC. By the proposed MLI based ES, voltage regulation of critical load voltage is studied for voltage sag and swell conditions. Remarkable features of the proposed t… Show more

“…Increasing levels demands more complex control. Hence the seven level MLI with reduced switch count is proposed in [39] and shown in Figure 6(b) .It reduces THD to 0.44% in main voltage. The packed E cell based SPES-B is shown in Figure 6(c), it uses the artificial neural network (ANN) based controller with features like: reduced number of components, more switching states and spectacular dynamic performance during transients [40].…”

“…Applying proper pulses to the switches three phase voltage is generated, that is applied to the grid through a filter. To filter out the harmonics in the current, different filters 'L', 'LCL', 'LC' are available in literature [24]. 'L' filter was used to filter the harmonics in the current [25][26].…”

“…Grid specifications are taken as 400V, 50Hz and impedance = (0.1 + 400) . A PR controller is used to drive the inverter and an LCL filter is used to improve the quality of grid current [25]- [28]. PWM technique is implemented to produce switching pulses to converter.…”
