Enhancement of Thermal Diffusivity in Phase-Separated Bismaleimide/Poly(ether imide) Composite Films Containing Needle-Shaped ZnO Particles

Abstract: Phase-separated polymer blend composite films exhibiting high thermal diffusivity were prepared by blending a soluble polyimide (BPADA-MPD) and a bismaleimide (BMI) with needle-shaped zinc oxide (n-ZnO) particles followed by high-temperature curing at 250 • C. Images recorded with a field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) equipped with wavelength-dispersive spectroscopy (WDS) demonstrated that the spontaneously separated phases in the composite films were aligned along the out-of-plane direction, … Show more

“…However, their intrinsic thermal conductivity is very low, only in the range of 0.1–0.4 W mK –1 . “…[28][29][30] Currently, the ller arrangement resulting from a segregated structure [31][32][33][34] in a polymer matrix is a typical method of constructing a continuous thermal conduction network. Adjusting the ller orientation [35][36][37][38] in a polymer matrix is a special way to gain a better ller arrangement, resulting in higher thermal conductivity. In terms of ller orientation, novel twodimensional (2D) materials [39][40][41] with unique atomic congurations and singular properties have attracted attention.…”

“…[1][2][3] Filled thermally conductive polymer composites are an important kind of material due to their simple preparation technology, and their remarkable enhancement effect of the thermal conductivity. Common thermally conductive llers include carbon black, 4 alumina (Al 2 O 3 ), 5 boron nitride (BN), 6 graphene oxide (GO), 7,8 zinc oxide 9 and silicon carbide. 10 It is difficult to achieve high thermal conductivity at a low ller content with the traditional blending process, while the mechanical property, aging property and thermal property of the corresponding composite will be deteriorated at a high ller content.…”
