“…Specific depression of cell-mediated tumour immunity following treatment with soluble tumour extracts has also been observed by other workers (Rao, 1975;Rao and Bonavida, 1976a;Vaage, 1973;Paranjpe and Boone, 1975;Milas et af., 1974;Wepsic et af., 1971) and in most cases this was correlated with enhanced tumour growth in the treated animals. The phenomenon is not confined only to tumour-associated antigens, however, since soluble antigen extracts have also been shown to enhance allograft survival (Rao rt af., 1974;Rao and Bonavida, 19766;Bonavida and Zighelboim, 1974) and administration of Mc7 ENTM permits the growth of sarcoma Mc7 in allogeneic Slonaker rats which normally reject this tumour (Embleton, to be published). Previous studies from this laboratory have also shown that ENTM from other rat tumours produces the same kind of inappropriate immune response as that demonstrated in sarcomas.…”
