Kulvelis et al used the photosensitizer Radachlorin ® (sodium salts of chlorin e 6 , chlorin p 6 , and purpurin 5) with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and DNDs to synthesize a ternary catalytic complex, using UV irradiating the complex to excite the DNDs, which do not emit light and transfer energy to surrounding molecules, thereby catalyzing the production of 1 O 2 [ 32 ].
