“…As a consequence, various approaches have been developed for improving the visible light photocatalytic efficiency, including metal and/or non-metal ion doping, surface chelation, and mixing of two semiconductors [7][8][9]. On the other hand, many researchers have diverted their attention to develop novel photocatalytic materials with high activity [10,11]. Apart from exploiting new materials, modifying conventional semiconductors are another alternative to develop efficient photocatalytic materials.…”

“…It is obvious that the photocatalytic performance becomes quite low after adding the reagent EDTA-2Na, holes trapper, indicating that holes were predominate active species during the photocatalytic process. Nevertheless, the addition of IPA, hydroxyl radical trappers, has almost no effect, revealing that the formation of radicals ‱ OH is a minor factor determining the catalytic efficiency [39]. Generally, the existence of ‱ O 2 − radicals can be detected by the abatement of NBT concentration during photocatalysis since NBT molecules are apt to react with produced ‱ O 2 − radicals to yield insoluble intermediate purple formazan [24].…”

“…Especially because the second phase was formed inside the first phase, the contact is estimated to be very homogeneous and intimate, as shown by TEM investigations. New examples of multiphase heterojunctions for photocatalysis are the combination of hexagonal BiPO 4 with monoclinic BiPO 4 for dyes and phenol degradation [19], and the combination of cubic and orthorhombic NaNbO 3 for CO 2 photoreduction [20].…”
