Enhanced two-frequency phase-shifting method

Abstract: One of the major challenges of employing a two-frequency (or two-wavelength) phase-shifting algorithm for absolute three-dimensional shape measurement is its sensitivity to noise. Therefore, three- or more-frequency phase-shifting algorithms are often used in lieu of a two-frequency phase-shifting algorithm for applications where the noise is severe. This paper proposes a method to use geometric constraints of digital fringe projection system to substantially reduce the noise impact by allowing the use of more… Show more

“…As for the dual-frequency phase unwrapping method, the low frequency phase is scaled up by the scaling factor 1 2 / f f to determine the fringe order. Therefore, to reduce the noise, the low frequency phase is represented by more than one period of fringes (25,27). After extract the wrapped phases corresponding to the high and low frequency components, the minimum phase map created using geometric constraint of the digital fringe projection (DFP) is employed to unwrap the low frequency phase intricately.…”

“…The conventional dual-frequency phase unwrapping algorithm use the continuous phase of the low-frequency fringe to unwrap the wrapped phase of the high-frequency one [15][16]. Assuming that the frequency of the low-frequency fringe…”

“…It is very expensive computationally. Zhang [15] proposed an enhanced two-frequency phase-shifting method. Similar to reference [14], the low-frequency fringe patterns are not with a unit frequency, so the phase of the low-frequency fringe patterns is wrapped.…”
