Enhanced Torque Control and Reduced Switching Frequency in Direct Torque Control Utilizing Optimal Switching Strategy for Dual-Inverter Supplied Drive

Abstract: Direct Torque Control (DTC) of induction machine has received wide acceptance in many adjustable speed drive applications due to its simplicity and high performance torque control. However, the DTC using a common two-level inverter poses two major problems such as higher switching frequency (or power loss) and larger torque ripple. These problems are due to inappropriate voltage vectors which are selected among a limited number of voltage vectors available in two-level inverter. The proposed research aims to f… Show more

“…However, the effect of motor degradation was reflected in the change in motor load, which usually increased as the motor degraded [ 23 ]. Screw wear was also related to the motor load, which decreased as the screw wore out because the screw speed increased owing to the reduced radius of the blade [ 24 ]. Note that the motor load decreased with increasing screw speed caused by wear but increased with an increase in the setting speed of the screw.…”

“…This is done by floating the neutral point of motor winding to connect the dual two-level inverters into both ends of motor windings. Some improvements of its look-up table has been discussed in [24]- [27] related to the extra operation, modified look-up table and improvised switching table. On the other hand, the matrix converter (MC) on DTC was introduced in the early 2000's [28].…”

“…In general, total voltage vector produced by conventional or two-level inverter is eight thus it limits the variation of voltage vector for the inverter switching. By employing MLI, the voltage vector increases thus large degree of freedom for optimal switching can be achieved [17]. Several topologies of MLI have been developed and employed in DTC as studied in [18][19][20][21][22][23].On the other hand, Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) strategy is another approach employed in DTC (DTC-SVM).…”
