Enhanced thermal and anti‐ablation properties of high‐temperature resistant reactive POSS modified boron phenolic resin

Abstract: To further improve the anti-ablation property of boron phenolic resin (BPR), high-temperature resistant reactive trisilanolheptaphenyl POSS (3OH-POSS) was synthesized to modify BPR. The thermal stability of BPR was significantly improved. The initial decomposition temperature of the prepared 3OH-POSS modified BPR (POSSBPR) was increased from 226.0 to 390.2 C and the chars

“…The lower the I D /I G value, the less disorder and defect there is; conversely, the more disorder and defect there is. 39,40 As can be seen in Figure 9, the I D :I G value of EP/7-KDC is 0.82 less than that of neat EP, which indicates the enhanced graphitization of the carbon. 41 This is because KDC has the property of catalytic carbonization, which makes it form a tight block layer of carbon during thermal decomposition and evaporation, and thus has good flame retardancy.…”

“…At higher conversions and activation energies however, the char forming is due to the inorganic part of POSS nanoparticles and formation of hightemperature species. 55 However, the E a values related to 3 and 5 wt% nanoparticles were lower than that related to the sample containing 1 wt% POSS nanofiller, demonstrating lower compatibility and dispersion of nanoparticles at this POSS loading. The activation energy results obtained from FWO model for neat PBZ resin and samples containing 1, 3, and 5 wt% POSS content are presented in Figure 7.…”
