“…The details of the experimental procedure were described elsewhere (Y. Wang, Zhang, et al, 2017; P. Zhang, Bai, et al, 2019; P. Zhang, Ren, et al, 2019). During the experiments, CO 2 , N 2 , and CH 4 was firstly was injected into the visual chamber from the bottom to replace the air at atmospheric pressure, then 150 ml surfactant solution was injected into the visual chamber.…”

“…The half‐life time are the main indicator of foam stability. The longer the half‐life time, the slower the foam coalescence and collapse rate, and the foam is more stable. In this study, foam composite index (FCI) was used as a parameter to comprehensively evaluate the influences of foaming ability and foam stability on foam performance (L. Sun et al, 2015; Wei, Pu, Sun, Zhou, & Ji, 2018; P. Zhang, Ren, et al, 2019), which can be calculated as 0.75 × V max × t 1/2 . It is noted that the parameter of “foam production” defined as the ratio of foam volume and rate of foam decay can be also used a good foam performance indicator (Karakashev, 2012).…”

“…The foam volume (V F ) was used to reect the foamability of the chemical agent, while the half-life time (t 1/2 ) was used to reect the foam stability (measured as the time used for half-volume dewatering). Then, a foam composite index (FCI) was used to evaluate the foam performance comprehensively, 44,45 which was calculated as FCI ¼ 0.75V F Â t 1/2 . A suitable formula of foaming agent was screened according to the foam volume (V F ), half-life time (t 1/2 ), and FCI index, and then utilized in the following experiments and pilot tests.…”
