Enhanced preconcentration of selected chlorofluorocarbons on multiwalled carbon nanotubes with polar functionalities

Abstract: Chromatographic monitoring of chlorofluorocarbons in air requires the preconcentration of these highly volatile species. In this paper, we present functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes as effective sorbents for a microtrap designed for chlorofluorocarbons preconcentration. Among the commercial carbons and carbon nanotubes studied, functionalization via carboxylation and propyl amine was most effective for dichlorofluoromethane and trichlorofluoromethane (Freon 11), which were selected as representative c… Show more

“…Furthermore, the combination between the CNTs and the Js was studied through the FTIR spectrometer. As shown in Figure S4, the CNTs demonstrated a distinct absorption peak at 1710 cm –1 , which was assigned to the CO stretching vibration of carboxylic acid, and the Js showed an absorption peak at 1633 cm –1 , which belonged to the O–H bending vibration of absorbed H 2 O. As for the FTIR spectrum of the C-Js, there was a new absorption peak around 1658 cm –1 .…”

“…We introduce for the first time multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) as a new resin material for EMLC and apply them at a preparative scale. MWCNT have been utilized as the chromatography stationary phase for various applications in the last few years , though not in EMLC. Data on the high adsorption capacity of MWCNT for uraemic toxins , ultrahigh specific adsorption of CNTs for salt , and their capacity for dye removal from aqueous solutions have been published.…”
