Enhanced photodegradation efficiency of polyethylene‐TiO2 nanocomposite film with oxidized polyethylene wax

Abstract: A novel photodegradable polyethyleneoxidized polyethylene wax-TiO 2 (PE-OPW-TiO 2 ) nanocomposite film was prepared by embedding the organically modified TiO 2 nanoparticles into commercial PE in the presence of OPW. The photocatalytic degradation behavior under ultraviolet light or solar light was investigated by examining the weight loss of the composite films, UV-vis transmittance spectrum, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and gel permeation chromatogram (GPC). The results show that OPW, as a dispersant … Show more

“…The data clearly showed that both the tensile strength and elongation at break decreased as introducing of additives. Especially, the value for r b and e b of TPE film with nano-TiO 2 had decreased greatly, which might be attributed to the poor dispersion of nano-TiO 2 agglomerates in the matrix [32]. When both kaolin and TiO 2 powder were added in PE, the reinforcing and toughening effects of Kaolin on the polymer were observed as expected.…”

“…Therefore, development of photocatalyst for PS photodegradation has attracted much attention from the viewpoints of environmental compatibilities. TiO 2 has been studied as such photocatalyst for PS and polyolefins [1e4, 6,7]. TiO 2 catalytically reacts with H 2 O in air under sunshine exposure, and OH is produced.…”

“…As a result, polymeric materials have enormous stability and are widely used in our lives. However, the intense use of polymeric materials combined with their enormous stability has created serious problems of plastic waste and has given rise to an intensive interest in new polymer systems, such as photodegradable and/or biodegradable materials 1–11. Degradable materials have attracted much attention from the viewpoint of their environmental compatibilities.…”
