Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity of Nanoparticle-Aggregated Ag–AgX(X = Cl, Br)@TiO2 Microspheres Under Visible Light

Abstract: Ag–AgX(X = Cl, Br)@TiO2 nanoparticle-aggregated spheres with different mass ratio of R = TiO2/Ag(X) from 35:1 to 5:1 were synthesized by a facile sol–gel technique with post-photoreduction. The photocatalytic activities of both Ag–AgCl@TiO2 and Ag–AgBr@TiO2 under visible light are effectively improved by ~3 times relative to TiO2 NPAS under the simulated sunlight for the decomposition of methyl orange (MO). Ag–AgBr@TiO2 showed 30% improvement and less stable in photocatalytic activity than that of AgCl@TiO2. T… Show more

“…Rings present in SAED pattern was used to assign planes to each ring based on the interplanar distances d ¼ 0.314 (111) (AgCl), 0.286 (200) (AgCl), 0.236 (111) (Ag) 0.206 (400), 0.145 (220), 0.127 (331), 0.117 (222), and 0.165 (311). 24,39,40 It also shows the polycrystalline nature of the Ag/AgCl nanoparticles. A bell-shaped histogram could not be obtained in our study as there were few particles having size in range of 140 to 160 nm and most of the particles fall in the range of 10-20 nm, this suggests that the particles formed were polydisperse in nature.…”

“…7(C), same type of pattern was obtained by AgCl nanoparticles synthesized from Klebsiella planticola (MTCC 2277). 39 Interplanar distance was calculated using the SAED pattern based on which we have given orientation planes to the rings present in SAED pattern. “…Among them, Ag/AgBr with appropriate band gap obtains the most attention . Furthermore, plenty of materials have been used to couple with Ag/AgBr, such as α‐Fe 2 O 3 /Ag/AgBr, Ag/AgBr/BiOIO 3, Ag/AgBr/TiO 2, Ag/AgBr/BiOBr, to further improve its photocatalytic performance. So far, Ag/AgBr/ZnFe 2 O 4 has been synthesized successfully by some researchers.…”

“…Materials based on conjugated polymers have found wide commercial application, particularly in the development of electrochromic devices (ECDs) [ 1 , 2 ], photovoltaic (PV) cells [ 3 ] and organic field effect transistors (OFETs) [ 4 ] due to their beneficial electronic and mechanical properties [ 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ]. The quest of fabricating ever newer generations of optoelectronic devices, however, inherently leads to greater requirements in terms of material properties.…”
