Enhanced light absorption and charge separation of In‐doped ZnO nanorod arrays for photoelectrochemical water‐splitting application

Abstract: Elemental doping promises an efficient strategy to modify and optimize the performance of metal oxide photoanodes. Herein, we introduce a simple hydrothermal method to fabricate In-doped ZnO thin films on the fluorinedoped tin oxide (FTO) to use as a photoanode for water splitting application. The effects of In-doping on the structural, optical, morphological, and electrical properties of ZnO nanorods were studied. PEC results indicate that the 5%In doped ZnO photoanode determined an outstanding photocurrent de… Show more

“…Linear scanning voltammograms were obtained at 10 mV/s over a potential range of −0.6 to 0.0 V vs. Ag/AgCl in the light and dark/light conditions. Equation ( 5) was used to calculate the applied bias photo-to-current efficiency (ABPE), which is used as a diagnostic method in the development of materials [23]. The IPCE G1218a (PV Measurement) measuring system was used to measure the photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE).…”

“…In line with this, hydrogen energy, a type of energy that does not produce harmful by‐products such as greenhouse gases, is attracting research attention 1‐3 . Among the various methods for producing hydrogen, water electrolysis techniques of water to obtain H 2 and O 2 have been widely studied 4‐7 . This process consists of two half‐reactions: the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) on one side and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) on the other 8 .…”

“…Energy crisis has been a serious issue facing mankind at present. 1,2 Hydrogen (H 2 ) is regarded as an ideal clean energy in the future due to its concentrated energy density and environment friendliness. Photocatalytic H 2 generation strategy is a promising method because of its sustainable, and low-cost features.…”
