Enhanced Inter Mode Decision Based on Contextual Prediction for P-Slices in H.264/AVC Video Coding

Abstract: We propose a fast macroblock mode prediction and decision algorithm based on contextual information for Pslices in the H.264/AVC video standard, in which the mode prediction part is composed of intra and inter modes. There are nine 4×4 and four 16×16 modes in the intra mode prediction, and seven block types exist for the best coding gain based on rate-distortion optimization. This scheme gives rise to exhaustive computations (search) in the coding procedure. To overcome this problem, a fast inter mode predicti… Show more

“…Inspired by their work, Li [8] maps mesh surfaces into a planar region by means of ABF (angle-based flattening) and then inversely maps the offset curves on 2D to a tool path on the original surface. Constructing a novel mapping style, Kim and Yang [9] deform the cutter location (CL) surface into a new surface and then inversely map the tool path generated by slicing the deformed CL surface to an iso-cusp tool path. Latterly, Lee [10] further extend the conventional drive surface and guide plane concepts, and use a series of plane driven by tool path interval to slice the CL surface to generate the tool path.…”

“…And it decreases 30% of coding time. Reference [5] divides the modes of inter prediction into two groups, which chooses the mode by using the spatial and temporal correlation, and decreases 33.98%~42.45% of the coding time. Reference [6] uses gliding property of the video sequence to decrease the candidate coding modes, and reduces 30% of the coding time.…”
