Enhanced exponential rule scheduling algorithm for real-time traffic in LTE network

Abstract: Nowadays, mobile communication is growing rapidly and become an everyday commodity. The vast deployment of real-time services in Long Term Evolution (LTE) network demands for the scheduling techniques that support the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. LTE is designed and implemented to fulfill the users’ QoS. However, 3GPP does not define the specific scheduling technique for resource distribution which leads to vast research and development of the scheduling techniques. In this context, a review of the r… Show more

“…Since they are not given in the M:tel database, the continuous delay values are obtained indirectly based on the research presented in [13]. First, the Real Time Video delay value is estimated depending on the number of active users for the exponential rule scheduling algorithm (from Figure 6(a) in [13]). As a result of the regression over the estimated values, a cubic function is obtained:…”

“…The simulation shows an increase in the QoS-fairness and overall throughput of the edge users without producing a substantial degradation in the system throughput when compared with best CQI, PF, RR and Coordinated Multi Point (CoMP) structure with RR. Yaqoob et al [20] presented an enhanced EXPRULE (eEXPRULE) scheduling algorithm for real-time (RT) traffic in LTE network. The scheduler shows improvement on all the metrics used by most scheduler reviewed.…”

“…Yaqoob, 2020) studied the performance of existing schedulers in LTE network which include Proportional fair (PF), Modified largest weighted delay first (MLWDF), Exponential PF (EXP/PF), Logarithm rule (LOGRULE) and Exponential rule (EXPRULE) scheduler. The authors then enhanced the existing exponential rule scheduling whose limitations include high packet rate, low fairness and high delay.…”
