Enhanced ergonomics approaches for product design: a user experience ecosystem perspective and case studies

Abstract: This paper first discusses the major inefficiencies faced in current human factors and ergonomics (HFE) approaches: (1) delivering an optimal end-to-end user experience (UX) to users of a solution across its solution lifecycle stages; (2) strategically influencing the product business and technology capability roadmaps from a UX perspective and (3) proactively identifying new market opportunities and influencing the platform architecture capabilities on which the UX of end products relies. “…Further exploration and in-depth study are required on this subject, as some barriers that cause users to reject or abandon their assistive devices remain not fully captured. Ultimately, findings indicate that emotional experiences have not been examined in the context of ATs acceptance by older people, which is mainly left unexplored [14], [13]. Existing methods, approaches, perspectives, and the underlying theories cannot deliver the new change required in UX; however, some researchers point out empirical studies are needed to link all the experience attributes [30].…”

“…The social value of the building is affected not only by the physical design but also by the design processes, organizational set-ups, building management, and the experiences of the occupants [36]. Xu [37] points out how experience is shaped by the lifecycle of the product and all of the touch points where users interact with the product or related services. New kind of collaboration over the traditional boundaries of the industries has been called for to ensure innovativeness and renewal.…”

“…Based on extensive research, a unified experience strategy has been proposed to address the UX issues along with corporation-wide digital transformation efforts (Xu, 2014;Xu et al, 2019). To support the unified experience strategy, enterprise HCI standards, processes and an organization maturity model were developed within the IT organization.…”
