Enhanced Efficiency of Thermoelectric Generator by Optimizing Mechanical and Electrical Structures

Abstract: Much attention has been paid to the application of low temperature thermal resources, especially for power generation in recent years. Most of the current commercialized thermal (including geothermal) power-generation technologies convert thermal energy to electric energy indirectly, that is, making mechanical work before producing electricity. Technology using a thermoelectric generator (TEG), however, can directly transform thermal energy into electricity through the Seebeck effect. TEG technology has many a… Show more

“…The CSHE had a remarkable impact on the reduction in output power as hA further decreased (at low flow rates and high cross-sectional areas of the water channel) and, consequently, the thermal resistance increased. A similar behavior was observed in Reference [43] when the behavior of a TEG designed for a different purpose (it used hot water instead of exhaust gases as the main heat source) was experimentally studied.…”

“…The efficiency of a thermoelectric converter is almost equal to the values given in domestic and foreign literature [16], that is, when the temperature of the cold junction is equal to the ambient temperature T x = 20˚C and hot junction Т г = 1200С η = 6.0%. The temperature of the photoconverter is practically unchanged [17]. When using twenty-fold solar radiation, it rose only 1.10С.…”

“…These had cover from a various heat source such as solar, vehicle engines or components, air conditioning unit and even body heat [17]. In practice, a set of TEG will be installed together, either in series or in parallel to increase the output [18,19].…”
