Enhanced Direct Power Control Strategy of a DFIG-Based Wind Energy Conversion System Operating Under Random Conditions

Abstract: The main objective of this paper is the performances analysis of an Enhanced Direct Power Control (EDPC), applied to Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) driven by variable speed Wind Turbine (WT). This control strategy uses hysteresis regulators and switching table for active and reactive powers control. These latter are estimated using rotor currents and grid voltages instead of a traditional measurement of stator currents. In addition, the EDPC switching table is based on the position of the rotor flux ins… Show more

“…Another grid forming approach is direct power control (DPC), in which output voltage gives the phase angle reference and that is why it is categorized in a grid forming converter [9]- [10]. The enhanced direct power control (EDPC) is proposed in [11], for Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) driven by variable speed Wind Turbine (WT) application. In this approach, the switching pattern for VSCs is produced from hysteresis control.…”

“…Several maximum power point (MPP) extraction techniques have been proposed in the literature [24][25][26][27][28][29][30]. It can be divided into indirect and direct MPPT methods [31,32]. The indirect method is based on knowledge of the wind turbine system properties [33].…”

“…Several approaches have recently been taken to increase the DC performances. They are applied to the two-level (2L) back-to-back converter in the DFIG by incorporating other techniques [13]. For the GSC control, several methods have been tested to reduce the variation of the DPC switching frequency [14][15][16].…”
