Enhanced Delivery in Disruption Tolerant Networks using Advantaged Nodes with Directional Antenna Capability

Abstract: Disruption tolerant networks are designed to deal with the limited connectivity among mobile nodes due to mobility, short range radios or terrain obstacles. Several routing schemes have been proposed for DTNs. These routing schemes rely on the node mobility to deliver packets amidst frequent and extended network partitions using a store-and-forward approach. Recently, researchers have proposed that special stationary nodes are deployed to enhance contact opportunities and hence improve the delivery performance… Show more

“…The idea of deploying additional advantaged nodes to improve communication has been explored in wireless networks [2]. In [3], the advantaged nodes are provided with directional antenna capability to further enhance the delivery performance. In [2][3], a certain number of advantaged nodes are deployed to improve the communication capability of the network.…”

“…Here, each host forwards data packets to the destination independently. Some of the characteristics of wireless MANETs are as follows [3]: are required to overcome the limitations of broadcast radio networks. In addition to the routing protocols and transport protocols, it must function as an intelligent system while routing data packets from one location to another.…”
