Enhanced critical current density in Gd-added (Bi, Pb)-2212 bulk superconductor

Abstract: The effects of Gd addition on the phase evolution and superconducting properties of (Bi, Pb)-2212 prepared in the bulk polycrystalline form were studied. The Gd content in the samples was varied from 0.0 to 0.5 on a general stoichiometry of Bi1.7Pb0.4Sr2.0Ca1.1Cu2.1GdxOy. Phase analysis by means of x-ray diffraction, microstructural examination by scanning electron microscopy and superconducting property studies were carried out to evaluate the relative performances of the samples. It is observed that Gd addit… Show more

“…Bi-based cuprate superconductors represented by the series Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca n−1 Cu n O 2n+4 with n = 1, 2, and 3 have some important properties for the fundamental researches and applications in technology and industry owing to the their remarkable smaller power losses, high current, and magnetic field carrying capacity, optical, and electronic properties [1][2][3][4][5]. Several techniques [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] have widely been used to improve their superconducting properties for years.…”
