Enhanced charge storage capacity and high rate capabilities of Ni2Co-layered double hydroxides/expanded-graphite composites as anodes for Li-ion batteries

Abstract: The expanded graphite has been used as a matrix to grow Ni2Co-LDH and this enabled to obtain stability and fast charging capabilities when used as anode for Li-ion batteries. The experimental findings are supported by DFT calculations.

“…Along with that, voltage hysteresis is a crucial parameter to assess the electrode reversibility, which basically represents the gap between peak potentials of oxidation and reduction. A narrower hysteresis indicates better reversibility of the electrode. The voltage hysteresis for Sb is found to be 0.293 V, whereas it is reduced to only 0.258 V in the case of the Sb/f-CNT composite, suggesting better reversibility in the latter case.…”

“…The relationship between the measured current ( i ) and the scan rate (ν) at a specific potential can be expressed as , i = a ν b or , 0.25em log ( i ) = log 0.25em a + b log 0.25em ν where a and b are adjustable parameters. The b -value depicts the type of charge storage mechanism and can be computed from the slope of the log ( i ) vs log (ν) plot. , The capacitive process dominates the charge storage mechanism when the b -value is close to 1. In contrast, the diffusion-limited process dominates when close to 0.5 …”
