Pola yang ada pada jari bersifat unik, pola tersebut dinamakan biometrik. Biometrik digunakan pada metode absensi fingerprint. Penelitian tentang absensi dengan fingerprint baru sebatas pengolahan data absensi tanpa dibuat alat fingerprintnya yang layak pakai. Oleh karena itu dibuat alat absensi dengan metode fingerprint berbasis Arduino yang lebih baik. Jika penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya menggunakan database dan EEPROM di mikrokontroler untuk penyimpanan data absensinya, pada penelitian ini micro SD digunakan untuk penyimpanan data. Tahapan penelitian dimulai dari studi literatur, kemudian perancangan perangkat keras, lalu perancangan perangkat lunak. Setelah alat jadi, dilakukan ujicoba pada alat untuk menganalisis performanya. Dilibatkan 30 responden, masing-masing melakukan scan ibu jari dan telunjuk. Berdasarkan uji jumlah percobaan, ibu jari dan telunjuk memiliki rata-rata jumlah percobaan 1,70 dan 2,73 berturut-turut. Pada uji waktu respon, telunjuk lebih baik dengan waktu rata-rata 2,39 detik berbanding 2,79 detik untuk ibu jari. Pengguna sebaiknya melakukan scan minimal selama 2 detik supaya dapat dideteksi alat.

Taking attendance for classes has become more challenging, especially at institutions, due to the growing students population. Typically, the teacher calls names and writes them down. This approach has a number of drawbacks because when recording their attendance, students are diverted from the presentation and may register for absent classmates. The smart attendance solution suggested in this study allows students to tap their student identity (ID) card on a near field communication (NFC) reader, streamlining the attendance procedure by using near field communication (NFC) technology. The technique is affordable, effective, and simple to keep up. Automating student attendance saves time and alleviates anxiety. The average time for the NFC system to take a student's attendance is 3.5 seconds, compared to 16 seconds for the conventional method. The inaccuracy associated with recording attendance is reduced by 31% thanks to NFC technology. The numerical results of the NFC-based scheme are compared with the traditional scheme and observed that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional scheme.

Several universities and other higher learning institutions throughout Tanzania use paper-based attendance systems and the old file system for recording student attendance during university examinations. The paper-based attendance system has several impediments, including chances of impersonation and the possibility of doing an examination without meeting requirements. Moreover, hard copy work is tedious and prone to vandalism or data loss due to paper misplacement or destruction. Several electronic general-purpose attendance systems and fewer attendance systems are engineered for university attendance management. However, university examination regulationsconflict with those systems. Henceforth, there is a gap in their applicability and adaptability. This study developed a QR code and fingerprint attendance prototype that resolves the shortcomings of existing electronic attendance systems. Fingerprints determined students’ identity during entry and exit sessions, while the QR code determined students’ examination answer booklet IDs during exit sessions. To assess the effectiveness of the attendance prototype, a sample of 120 students and 20 invigilators experimented with the prototype. The study findings show that the QR code and fingerprint systems are applicable and effective for managing university examination attendance in Tanzania. In addition, the study provides areas for future research
