Enhanced Artificial Neural Network with Harris Hawks Optimization for Predicting Scour Depth Downstream of Ski-Jump Spillway

Abstract: A spillway is a structure used to regulate the discharge flowing from hydraulic structures such as a dam. It also helps to dissipate the excess energy of water through the still basins. Therefore, it has a significant effect on the safety of the dam. One of the most serious problems that may be happening below the spillway is bed scouring, which leads to soil erosion and spillway failure. This will happen due to the high flow velocity on the spillway. In this study, an alternative to the conventional methods w… Show more

“…GMDH and GEP) models developed for water level prediction at both study stations were evaluated by using four performance or statistical indicators i.e. Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) (Malik et al, 2019b;Pham et al, 2021;Sammen et al, 2020), Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) (Nash & Sutcliffe, 1970), Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC) (Adnan et al, 2019;Malik & Kumar, 2020), and Willmott Index (WI) (Willmott, 1981), and through graphical inspection (time-variation plot, scatter plot, box-whisker plot, and Taylor diagram). “…In fact, the accuracy also depends upon the model data requirement, the quality of this data (which must be good) and model setup equation that which type of is that either In recent years, the ANN-method has drawn considerable interest from scientists for prediction of the systems that are nonlinear; due to its highly learning potential without any physical acquaintance of the process to be modeled [54]. The primary principle of data handling ANNs is inspired by the nervous biological system [55]. ANNs comprise of a countless number of nodes that are linked together to address multiple issues.…”

“…In the second phase, the MGGP is applied to map the inherited features from the last phase to the target. It is another type of GP-based method that linearly combines the simplified GP genes (Searson 2015). As shown in Equation ( 1), the prediction result T is the weighted sum of several GP trees G i plus a bias term b.…”
